Current Events
Clayton Lions are gearing up for the Holidays Season. We have a Christmas Parade float to prepare, we have a pizza sale underway, we have a new website and we have successfully led the way in Lions Field renovation work we undertook last Spring. We have two new members and we have plans to enter a tree in the TI Museum’s Festival of Trees. An active Fall and Winter lays ahead. Here is a summary of current activities. To get the full story, come to the meetings.
Christmas Float. Float designer extraordinaire, Lion John Davis, has developed what is sure to be another winning float for this year’s parade. The theme is “Christmas on the River” and Lion John has come up with a plan for building a freighter, with Xmas tree, passing under the TI Bridge. Work progresses on the float right now and if you would like to help build it, call Lion John.
Website. Lion Brenda Meara spent long hours putting together a website (actually it is a blogsite, which is far simpler to build) and an email address to go with it. So far we have had over one hundred hits on the site. We can upload information about our club and our current events on the website. We can post on-line registration forms and rules for the Jet Ski Poker Run and the Bass Tournament. We are already linked to the Clayton Chamber of Commerce website and hope to add additional links as time goes on. Visit our website at: http://claytonlionsclub.blogspot.com/
Our email address is claytonlions@gmail.com A big thank you goes to Lion Brenda for putting this together for us.
Pizza Sale. Our club has a quick fundraiser in partnership with the new pizzeria in town, Mars Pizza located in the former Harbor Inn Restaurant building. We will sell pizza coupons for $9 and split the money with Mars. We will make about $3 or $4 per pizza. We will conduct this sale like a bulb and broom sale and we have also set up a table outside Kinney Drugs last weekend. Lion John Davis took it upon himself to organize this fundraiser. It is clearly a win-win. Mars gets to help establish their name in town, buyers get a good deal on a large pizza (they normally cost about $13) and Lions get a respectable profit. If you are called to help, please give us a few hours in the next week or two to sell coupons, or better yet, call Lion John at 686-9905 to volunteer.
Lions Field. Clayton Lions promised to help lead a community wide effort to re-furbish Lions Field. Last Spring we paid for new restroom furnishings and several Lions worked with other Clayton volunteers to clean, repair and paint the restrooms. The Rotary Club organized roof repair work. Probably the biggest undertaking was to raise $9000 for a new scoreboard and Lion Bud Dier was a one-Lion work crew in canvassing the community for donations. He succeeded and we now have a new scoreboard. Lion Bud, thank you very much for your initiative and hard work in making the new scoreboard a reality. Clayton Lions Club acted as the “bank” for donated funds – the Village of Clayton could not legally do this – and Mayor Norma thanks our club for making these improvements possible. For years we have all talked about taking on a major community project and now we have done so and we have been successful. Thanks and congratulations to all Clayton Lions for work and support of Lions Field renovations.
November 1st Board Meeting Notes
- Donations. We gave to Jefferson County Hospice. We gave to Depauville Food Pantry.
- Christmas Float. Lions John Davis, Jim Flanders and Henry LaClair have been working on the float. We have two High School volunteers from TI Gears Club who offered to help us on a community project and we hope to have them help paint the float and join us in the parade.
- Pizza Sale. We need members to help with a few afternoons of door-to-door sales in the next few weeks. The coupons are good through 2/28/2011 and cost $9. This is a savings of about $4 per pizza.
Sad News
We recently lost two members of our Clayton Lions family. Lion Darrel Hayes passed away last month and Lion Ed Hall’s wife Gladys also passed away. Our hearts and prayers go out to the Hayes and Hall families. We have lost good friends.
